God answers all prayers, but sometimes his answer is 'no'

I finished a re-read of Angels & Demons this evening. I don't know how many times I've read the book - this one and Da Vinci Code but I love them. They're not great books but then I'm not reading them expecting ~great literature or whatever - I'm reading them because they're fun, easy to read mystery thrillers. They're like the action adventure version of a chick lit.

Easily gets a 4/5 of from me, because I really do love it.

I also love the movies. Again, they're not great but they're fun, make me really want to go to Rome and because Ewan McGregor looks fine as a priest. Forgive me father, for I am about to sin!

Having said that, the books had a pretty major impact on my life. They're responsible for me getting interested in conspiracy theories, secret societies, architecture, art and symbology. This read through I'm left wanting to more about the history and catholic church history.

Next up, a re-read of Da Vinci Code

comments

Commenting etiqutte question

Dreamwidth posts are like buses - you wait days for one, then two come along at once!

But I have a question about commenting etiquette because I'm new here and don't know how things work yet.

What's the protocol for if I've read a post, and I enjoyed it but I don't actually have anything to say - but I want you to know I read it and enjoyed it.

On other social media sites there's the option to 'like' a post but that isn't something here.

What do I do?!

comments

Let the light of love shine through

I meant to post this a couple of days ago but I've been so completely distracted by all things Star Trek: Enterprise. Seriously, I've watched two and a half seasons since the weekend!

I've been on a 90s nostalgia kick lately, especially with music. I found playlists on Spotify of the Now compilation albums from the year I was born and had a good listen to them.

Some of them, like Take That and Boyzone are really familiar to me - music I've grown up listening to my whole life and still listen to now.

Some of them, like Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around from Four Weddings & A Funeral are just classics at this point and I think everyone knows them... and possibly might even still be fed up of it 26 years later haha. That was number one for what, like, 2 years or something?

Most of it has been completely foreign and actually a bit alien to my ears. I do not like the - is it jungle it was called? That was dreadful! And what was with the all the reggae? That was not something I was expecting from 90s pop music from the UK I tell you!

One new artist I'm really liking though. I don't really think I can call them 'new' if they were releasing music 20 years ago. New to me at least. Not sure if they're still around but I'm really liking East 17. From what I can tell, they were like the 'bad boys' boy band to Take That's 'good boys'. Same thing with 5ive and Boyzone a few years later.

(Is that a law about boybands? That there's always two - the good boys and the bad boys?)

I've listened to Stay Another Day a few times and at this point I think it's my favourite. Wikipedia tells me it was their only UK number #1 - and was Christmas #1 the year I was born.

I'm also liking It's Alright, Around The World, If You Ever, Steam and Thunder. I want to at some point actually sit down and listen to their albums, see if they're as good as the songs that I'm enjoying. But damn some of their lyrics are fucking filthy. I swear I actually blushed listening to Steam, especially the last line 'Outside it's raining but inside is wet'. WOW. Yet at the same time, it makes me insanely curious to listen to the rest of their music.

So I quickly looked them up on Wikipedia and it seems they are still around - but neither the guy who wrote the songs and did the rapping, or the vocal guy are still in the band who have a completely different line-up. It looks like they did just the three albums in the 90s so I'll be checking those out - probably once I've finished mainlining Enterprise.

comments

Movin' on up, nothing can stop me

I was awake early this morning (despite a late night) and couldn't settle myself so I headed out for a walk. I ended up walking the two mile up to Tower Bridge. It took me just over 45 minutes so I was really pleased with that. I grabbed a venti gingerbread latte and a pain au chocolat from a Starbucks and sat watching the river for a while, sitting back as the city woke up around me.

I wasn't looking forward to the walk back and did think about getting public transport back. But that would have involved people in close proximity and we're in a pandemic so... no. I grabbed another coffee for the walk back and it took me just over an hour, a little slower because I was tired.

I was a bit chilled when I got home, so took a nice long shower which was heavenly.

The day has basically been spent on the couch, in a warm comfortable nest of blankets, with my cat Jess asleep and purring on my lap. We have an Autumn Glow candle burning
Earthy leaves swirl with golden sunlight and woody patchouli—like a walk through the forest in autumn'.
And watching lots of Star Trek: Enterprise.

I fell in love with Star Trek after watching the movie with Chris Pine, and I watched Discovery and Picard as they aired. I've never gone back and actually watched all the TV shows and I know I've missed references in the shows and not known who characters were. Last night I googled to see if there was a recommended order of watching the shows or if it was just in airing order - TOS, TNG, DS9 etc. I found The Star Trek Chronology Project and it lists the shows/episodes/movies in internal chronological order - how fucking cool is that?

I figure if I'm going to be geeky, I may as well be the utter most level of geeky that I can be. Right?

I've watched the first 11 episodes so far and I'm enjoying it! I think my favourite characters are Archer, Reed and Trip. I'm having slashy feels about them as well - Archer/Reed, Archer/Trip and Reed/Trip, although I think Archer/Trip might be winning.

But I'm not going to even look at AO3 to see what's around until I've seen more, I don't want to go spoiling myself. And how hilarious is that? The show's like 20 years old but I don't want to spoil myself for it! haha

Although I am finding I want icons of those three. Might have to see what I can find around Dreamwidth later tonight

I don't like T'Pol, but then I generally find Vulcans annoying. Dr Phlox is very entertaining, I could watch a whole show about him. But I'm finding the rest of the characters kind of fade into the background, they're a bit boring.

My timer has just gone off to tell me my dinner should be done cooking - a very grown up fishfingers, chips and peas - so I'm going to finish up in the kitchen and press play on 1x12!

comments

About me

Hi, I'm Naomi and welcome to my happy little corner of the internet.

I am 26, single, a cis-het Essex girl living in London and working in customer service. I fall under the 'questioning' tag of the LGBTQ banner, but figure I have my whole life to figure out who I am and what I want from it.

Fangirl. Reader. Geek. Atheist. Feminist. Dreamer. Owned by a kitty called Jess.

I read a lot. All the time. Everywhere. I love stories and I love words and all the little quirks of language.

I drink lots of diet coke. I don't get enough sleep. I love early mornings, late nights, wandering around city streets, second-hand book stores and coffee shops. I'm a geography nerd. I doodle almost constantly - unless I'm colouring or doing connect the dots. I'm a 90s girl and love all things retro. Hoodies & Doc Martens make me happy. I get super excited about climate change, sustainability, conservation, natural disasters, conspiracy theories, secret societies, positivity, kindness, mindfulness and self-care. Putting on super comfy pjs, warm socks and hiding under a fluffy blanket with a book is my favourite thing to do.

I love Chris Pine and Zendaya. I also fangirl over Ewan McGregor, Chris Hemsworth, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Natalie Portman, Henry Cavill and Jennifer Lawrence. Having Gordon Ramsey cook me dinner would be a dream come true. I would kill to have a conversation with Sir David Attenborough and/or Greta Thunberg.
.
I'm a shipper and once I've found my OTP in a fandom I don't multiship. My OTPs are forever.

My main fandoms are Star Trek and MCU. Other fandoms include: Arrowverse, DCEU, Supernatural, Transformers and The Witcher. Right now, I'm really into Dan Brown, Take That and Star Trek.

I'm introverted, but I love new friends so feel free to friend me at any time.

comments
